ELEGOO’s CANVAS System Makes Multi-Color Printing Actually Affordable

Multi-color 3D printing has always felt just out of reach. Too expensive, too complicated, or both. ELEGOO’s new CANVAS system for the Centauri Carbon might be the thing that finally changes that.

The headline number is £38 on pre-order. That’s it. For a four-color upgrade. Most comparable systems cost several times that, and some require you to buy an entirely new printer to get the feature at all.

So what does it actually do?

CANVAS adds multi-color capability to the Centauri Carbon using four independent motors, each managing a separate filament input. The printer switches between them automatically mid-print. No pausing, no manual swaps, no standing over the machine waiting for something to go wrong.

It also comes loaded with features that make a real difference day-to-day:

  • RFID filament detection: reads your spool and loads the right settings automatically
  • Auto-refill: if a spool runs out mid-print, it keeps going rather than ruining your project
  • Tangle detection and rewind: catches one of the most common causes of failed prints before it becomes a problem
  • Wide material support: PLA, ABS, ASA, PETG, and PC are all covered

Does it slow things down?

Nope. CANVAS plugs straight into the Centauri Carbon’s CoreXY setup, which tops out at 500mm/s. You’re not trading speed for color. You’re getting both.

Why does this matter?

Multi-color printing has been on most hobbyists’ wish lists for ages. The problem was always the price or the learning curve. ELEGOO seems to have genuinely tackled both at once here, and if the system delivers on its promises, it could push multi-color from “premium feature” to just normal.
