Elegoo’s latest release, the OrangeStorm Giga, promises to deliver large-scale 3D printing without breaking the bank. This 3D printing giant, with a print volume of 800 x 800 x 1,000 mm, is now available for preorder at around $2,500.

A Long-Awaited Debut

Elegoo’s first step into studio-size 3D printing has been a long time coming. While it has a lot of the basics down, the Giga’s oversized nature presents a few challenges. For one, the sheer size of the 800 x 800 mm print bed means mesh bed leveling takes considerable time to complete.

Additionally, there aren’t many built-in features for detecting and correcting print failures during those long jobs, so it’s worth keeping an eye on it while it’s running.

Space and Setup Considerations

Given its enormous footprint, the OrangeStorm Giga is not for the faint of heart—or those short on space. You’ll need an area of at least 1224 x 1520 x 1570 mm to accommodate this beast.

The printer itself weighs a hefty 145 kg, arriving in two massive boxes. Be sure to have some help on hand for assembly.

One interesting option with the Giga is its ability to support four printheads. While these can’t move independently, they allow you to print four identical models simultaneously, increasing your productivity.

Materials and Printing Time

As you might expect, bigger prints mean more time and material. For large prints, you’ll need 5 kg+ filament spools to avoid the hassle of changing out spools frequently.

Keep in mind, printing on this scale can be time-consuming, so patience is essential.
