ELEGOO Centauri Carbon Unboxing

ELEGOO Centauri Carbon First Look and Impressions

We were excited to hear that ELEGOO was looking to release its first XYZ 3D Printer, the Centauri Carbon. So when ELEGOO reached out to us and asked if we would like to have one to review, we jumped at the chance.

Read on to find out what we thought about the ELEGOO Centauri Carbon.

ELEGOO Centauri Carbon Initial Thoughts

Straight away we noticed that the 3d printer is extremely heavy and weighs in at just under 15 KG, something that should be considered when looking to purchase one.

When opening the box we were initially welcomed with the top panel that had a warning sticker on it telling the user that the lid should be removed when using certain types of filament.

The packaging is well done as it always seems to be with ELEGOO, the Saturn 4 Ultra was also packaged well.

The front door is made of glass, as we have become quite accustomed to with enclosed printers. Something that you either love or hate.

The spool holder is attached easily without tools to the right-hand side of the printer near the bottom and the PTFE and feeder are also attached to the same side. I had some problems with feeding the filament to the extruder, but more on that later.

It has a typical 3-pin power lead without any power brick.

There are two fan exhaust parts at the rear of the printer near the top, so make sure not to cover these.

The printer feels mostly metal but does have some plastic fixings. All together the printer feels very solid and has some nice detailing.

Looking inside we can see that the ELEGOO Centauri Carbon had a build volume of 256x256x256 and has a square build plate that is double-sided.

Side A is used for PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS, and Carbon Fibre. Side B is specialized for just printing PLA and has a smoother feel to it.

The printer has an internal camera and a light that can be turned off when not required. The light is not very bright and I would advise adding some after-market light bars.

While installing the ELEGOO slicer we were pleasantly surprised, the foundation for the slicer uses ORCA allowing us to be able to get to printing quickly as we are very familiar with this particular slicer.

We loaded the supplied benchy model and sliced it, we are using eSun PLA + for this particular model. This filament wasn’t available in the default choices so we opted for the ELEGOO PLA + settings.

The slicer indicated that the Centauri Carbon would take approx 34 minutes to print at normal speed.

Unfortunately, the filament was not moving to the extruder and we had to ‘force’ it through. whilst doing so the nozzle extruded some grey filament. We think this was left over from testing back at ELEGOO.

Once the grey was extruded the eSun PLA + went in with no problems.

The first thing we noticed about the Centauri was its noise. The printer certainly is not quiet, but when closing the door and putting on the lid you do notice a measurable decrease in decibels.

When the print was finished we were really impressed with the output. Clean lines, smooth texture, and great detail. This was probably one of the best benchys we have printed here at ILove3DPrinting.

Final Words,

We would just like to extend our gratitude to ELEGOO for providing us with the Centauri Carbon and we hope that we have covered the unboxing well.

The printer seems like it is going to be a solid piece of equipment within our workshop and we look forward to putting it through its paces. We hope you will join us as we do more and if there is anything you would like us to go over in more detail then please feel free to reach out to us here or in our Facebook Community.

We also have a YouTube channel that has this unboxing in video format, https://www.youtube.com/@ILove3DPrintingYT

Thanks for reading and as always, happy printing!
