Excamera Labs Engineers a Box-Forming Mandrel to Speed Up Shipping
Excamera Labs has unveiled a clever tool to help streamline its packaging process ahead of shipping its latest product, the TermDriver2.
To tackle the time-consuming step of folding cardboard boxes by hand, the lab designed a custom box-forming mandrel, a shaped support that holds and guides flat box material while it’s folded into form. The simple but effective solution reduces bottlenecks in production and ensures that boxes are consistently assembled to protect the hardware inside.
The mandrel represents the kind of small-scale innovation often found behind the scenes of hardware development. While new electronics products tend to draw attention for their features, even the packaging can spark inventive engineering when efficiency is on the line.
3d printing is often thought as the producing the end product, but this shows that additive manufacturing can be used as part of the process in delivering the end product.
The full write-up, including details and photos of the tool in action, was published by Excamera Labs on its Substack: A Box-Forming Mandrel.
